The Wisconsin Badgers broke the news to fans yesterday that Kamari McGee, who is known for his scrappy and willing defense and playmaking ability, is out indefinitely due to the devastating injury he sustained during the second half against the Hoosiers on January 19th. Fans speculate that the new injury likely means more playing time for Isaac Lindsey.
This season, McGee has played in 14 games and has averaged 1.5 points, 0.8 rebounds, and 0.4 assists per game. He has been a vocal team leader and a great representative of the University of Wisconsin. Kamari is also a ferocious competitor and brings experience and leadership to the Badgers’ backcourt, so as you can imagine this news has had a tremendous impact on both the team and Badgers fans.
Isaac Lindsey is a 6-foot-4 guard for the Wisconsin Badgers. He transferred from UNLV and is now in his third season with the Badgers. Last season, he played in 23 games and was placed on scholarship. This season, he has played in 14 games and has averaged 1.5 points, 0.8 rebounds, and 0.4 assists per game. Lindsey is known for his shooting ability from beyond the arc and his energy off the bench. He is also a hard worker and a team player.
With Kamari McGee out indefinitely due to his right foot/ankle injury, Isaac Lindsey is expected to play a bigger role in the Badgers’ backcourt. He has already seen some added playing time in the Badgers’ last game against Minnesota. Lindsey’s shooting ability and energy could help fill the void left by McGee’s absence.
Kamari Mcgee’s Injury
Kamari McGee sustained a severe ankle and foot injury during the Hoosiers v. Badgers game during the second half when he attempted to block a shot made by Xavier Johnson.
He had just been taken off the injury report not long prior to the game against Indiana. Many were hopeful and looking forward to everyone on the team having a clean slate. Kamari is currently using a scooter to get around and keep weight off the injury.
#Badgers reserve PG Kamari McGee (right foot/ankle) is out indefinitely, per UW. Using a scooter to get around and keep weight off the foot. As was the case at Minnesota, likely means a bit more PT for Isaac Lindsey.

Fans Were Concerned About McGee’s Landing
Many Badgers fans were concerned about the height at which McGee had landed from. The Badgers player re-injured his right ankle and foot after jumping nearly ten feet in the air to deflect Johnson’s shot. When he landed, he was not able to regain control of his balance and went out of bounds into the student section. He was not able to walk on his own, and ended up having to be helped by teammates off the sidelines. Then he was escorted out of the building. One fan said on X while watching the game on January 19th:
Did anyone just see how high Kamari McGee was jumping to deflect that inbounds pass? @KamariMcGee

It was clear to the crowd and the team that his injury was severe, but still, everyone kept hope until the team released the injury report yesterday. Kamari’s injury during the Hoosiers has definitely had a significant impact on everyone, but it does seem like he is staying off his foot and doing his best to recover. It remains to be seen how Kamari McGee’s injury will impact the rest of the Badgers’ season, but it is clear that his absence will be felt. Luckily, with players like Isaac Lindsey stepping up, they have a great chance of recovering from McGee being out.
