It’s been a a solid 2024 class for Greg Gard and the Wisconsin Badgers. It’s a class he knows and fans know they has to get right. With already landing Daniel Freitag and Jack Robsison, there’s a recruit in the 2024 class the Badgers are in thick of getting. That would be 6’6 215 pound small forward Kon Knueppel from Milwaukee. Knueppel currently attends Wisconsin Lutheran High School and has had a fantastic EBYL circuit in AAU this summer. He is quickly jumping up in the high school player rankings in the 2024 class.
About Knueppel
Knueppel doesn’t have the most eye-popping high school career stats. According to wissports.net, Knueppel has only averaged 15 points a game in his high school career to this point. However, wissports.net also indicated Knueppel is a career 59.5% shooter front the field and 49.7% three point shooter. He is also a 74.1% career free throw shooter. To put it short, Knueppel is a walking bucket and could put up 30 every night consistently if he wants to.
AAU Circut
Knueppel has had his break out summer this year playing for Phenom University. In the EBYL circuit, Knueppel is the leading scorer at 22.5 points a game. He is picking the right time to play well and is becoming one of the best players on the court every game he plays. His break out has resulted in him moving up to the 13th ranked player in the 2024 class according to Rivals.
College Path
Obviously a lot of top programs are in on Knueppel. He already has taken official visits to Louisville, Virginia, Stanford, and Notre Dame. Knueppel is rumored to take a visit to Wisconsin today and Marquette soon too. It is unclear if those will be considered official visits. It’s also mentioned it seems to be a two horse race between Wisconsin and Virginia.
If Wisconsin is able to land Kon Knueppel, it could be a huge momentum boost now and moving forward. Wisconsin has not landed a player rated this high since Sam Dekker. That went pretty well and resulted in two final four appearances in his three years.
Greg Gard has also had a knock on him for not landing top in-state players. That narrative would go away. Also, Wisconsin would have the top two players in Minnesota and the top player in Wisconsin. You better believe Gard and his crew are all in on Kon.
