Daniel Freitag was wanted by a ton of top programs in the country. Wisconsin offered him over two years ago and made it clear he was a priority for their 2024 class. Today it paid off as Freitag announced his commitment to the Badgers. He did so live on 247Sports YouTube page. Freitag announced yesterday Wisconsin was in his top five along with Notre Dame, Baylor, Minnesota, and Virginia.
What Are The Badgers Getting?
To put it short: Wisconsin is getting a great overall athlete. Freitag is a 6-2 185 point guard from Minneapolis. He will play next season at Southern California Academy. Wisconsin also offered him to play football. He is currently the 90th overall player in the 2024 class according to 247Sports. Wisconsin needs a point guard ready once Chucky Hepburn leaves and Freitag is the perfect option.
This is also significant because Wisconsin is seen to be a finalist for Wisconsin Lutheran small forward Kon Knueppel. Knueppel has been on a tear this AAU season and 247 has him ranked as the 38th overall player in the 2024 class. If Wisconsin was also able to snag Knueppel, it would be a huge success and likely one of their best recruiting classes in recent memory.
The addition of Daniel Freitag gives Wisconsin great momentum to land a player like Knueppel. Make no mistake about it, Daniel Freitag alone is a huge win for the Badgers and should contribute right away as a freshman.
