Wisconsin Badgers Recruiting has been eagerly targeting the 2024 and 2025 classes as many recruits lock up their official visits and commitments. One particular player the Badgers just recently started recruiting is in-state 2024 four-star offensive tackle Garrett Sexton.
After the recruit set his commitment date, Badgers Recruiting shockingly jumped into the race by offering Sexton a scholarship. Sexton has already received a crystal ball prediction for Penn State from 247 Sports and will make his commitment on the first day of May. However, Sexton just recently announced his official commitment to the Nittany Lions.

Like any other commitment, it is not over until it is over. Sexton is a verbal hard commitment, but that does not mean he will not change his mind with the right recruiting. Sexton may have committed, but that will not end his recruitment as many schools are now eager to flip the talented offensive tackle.
Currently, Sexton ranks as the fourth overall player in the state of Wisconsin and the 30th overall offensive tackle. Sexton is also the 376th overall recruit in the 2024 recruiting class, holding 19 total offers at this point in time. While Penn State has led the recruitment of Sexton, conference rivals Minnesota and Northwestern have also been following closely behind. Iowa, Iowa State, and Notre Dame have also been connected to Sexton in the last few months.
Coming in at 6 foot-7 inches, 250 pounds, the physical prowess of Sexton is what coaches and recruiters have looked at the most. Sexton, also a successful basketball player for his high school, has a unique combination of speed and strength as a tackle. As a basketball player, Sexton is extremely agile for his size and transfers his agility onto the football field.
Sexton delivers punishing blocks and rarely allows any rushers to get past him without being shoved first. Most people who make it past Sexton are there because the offensive tackle moved them there. Despite his size, Sexton still has the ability to move around effectively and defend his quarterback. Given his frame, Sexton still has room to gain size before reaching the next level, which could boost his strength.
Wisconsin Badgers Recruiting: Can a Teammate Lure Garrett Sexton?
Fellow Arrowhead football lineman Derek Jensen has played on the same line as Sexton for the entirety of his high school career. Jensen has been a Wisconsin Badgers hard commitment for nearly a month now, and his role has changed since committing. Jensen has been very active on social media trying to recruit his teammate Sexton to his next destination, Madison.
While it may seem unlikely that Garrett Sexton backs off from his Penn State commitment, that does not mean Badgers Recruiting should stop pursuing him. Sexton is still a top player in the state and class and could represent a great boost for the Badgers 2024 class. Sexton’s talent and connection to other players within the Wisconsin team would make the offensive tackle the perfect fit for the program.
Some Wisconsin fans have been concerned with the recent in-state recruits leaving for other schools, especially Penn State. Wisconsin Badgers fans should not worry at this point in time, as the team has still had plenty of recruiting success.
