Milwaukee Brewers leadoff hitter Brice Turang has been a pivotal part of their offense this year. Like everyone he has had his ups and downs and he generally speaking does not make hard contact with the baseball, but once on base he is a threat to steal and is one of several players in the lineup who applies pressure to opposing pitchers and defenses. Most recently, against the New York Mets, he stole his 50th base of the season and he did it in an exciting way.
Brice Turang stole three bases on Friday night against the New York Mets.
In what could potentially be a playoff preview the Brewers and Mets squared off to begin their final regular season series of 2024 on Friday night. In this contest New York had southpaw Sean Manaea on the mound in which he had been excellent during the month of September. However, Brice Turang ended up going 3-3 against him, stole second and third base against him in the first inning, and then stole another base in the sixth inning off of left-handed reliever Danny Young. These three steals (all against left-handed pitchers) gave Brice Turang 50 on the season.
Five players in Milwaukee Brewers history have stolen 50 bases in a season.
By reaching the 50 stolen base milestone Brice Turang became just the fifth player in franchise history to accomplish this. Jonathan Villar was the last player to do this as he stole 62 bases in 2016. Other members include Pat Listach (54 SB in 1992), Scott Podsednick (70 SB in 2004), and Tommy Harper (73 SB in 1969).
