The Wisconsin Badgers showed no mercy in their BIG10 Tournament matchup on Thursday afternoon against the Maryland Terrapins. From the opening tip, Wisconsin was looked in against Maryland and won easily by a final score of 87-56.
The offense scored 47 points in the first half and only held Maryland to 26 points in that half. When these two teams played each other last month, it was only a four-point win at home for the Badgers. Head coach Greg Gard did not have to sweat this one out.
With this victory, the Badgers now have 20 wins on the season. If people are questioning still if they are NCAA Tournament team or not, they put that debate to bed on Thursday afternoon. They are currently 20-12 on the season and the Terrapins dropped to 16-17 on the season with the loss. Wisconsin had four different players score in double figures against Maryland.
Justin Blackwell led the way for the Badgers with 18 points and he also grabbed five rebounds. Blackwell has been Wisconsin’s best player as of late. Steven Crowl scored 17 points,, AJ Storr scored 16 points, and Chucky Hepburn also scored 10 points and recorded eight assists.
This is the basketball team that fans saw earlier in the season. Hopefully, they will continue to be this efficient on offense.
Maryland Terrapins Have Three Players Score in Double Figures Against the Wisconsin Badgers
Even with Maryland getting blown out against Wisconsin, they had three different players score in double figures for Kevin Willard’s squad. Jahmir Young, a first-team all-BIG10 player this season, led the Terrapins once again with 18 points, one rebound, and two assists. DeShawn Harris-Smith scored 16 points and Julian Reese also added 10 points for Maryland.
After making the NCAA Tournament as an eighth seed a season ago, the Terrapins will not be headed to the NCAA Tournament this season. The Wisconsin Badgers are still marching on in the BIG10 Tournament and they will face the fourth-seeded Northwestern Wildcats next.
