The Baltimore Orioles have been going through a massive youth movement over the past few seasons, pushing them to the No. 1 seed in the American League with a 77-47 record so far this season.
According to Jon Heyman, Baltimore Orioles’ top prospect Jackson Holliday could be called up in September. He is currently in Double-A with the Bowie Bay Sox.
Holliday is only 19 years old and is currently the top prospect in all of baseball, according to MLB.com. He was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft and is not projected to reach the Big Leagues until 2024.
However, his play in the Minor Leagues is potentially altering the Baltimore Orioles’ plans.
Will the Baltimore Orioles Call Up Top Prospect This Season?
The Baltimore Orioles calling up Jackson Holliday to the big leagues in the month of September would be a bold move by the organization. It would be interesting because general manager Mike Elias usually has not cut any corners with player development.
Holliday would be thrown right into the playoff race for the Orioles. They could very well be the No. 1 seed in the American League. One of the reasons why Jackson Holliday would fit right in is because of his offensive numbers.
In just 25 games with the Bowie BaySox, he has a .350 batting average with three home runs and 13 RBIs, along with one stolen base. He also has an on-base percentage of .431. Jackson Holliday has played in 96 Minor League games so far this season with three different teams. He has a .336 batting average with 10 home runs and 64 RBIs, along with 21 stolen bases. His on-base percentage is .457.
If he was called up in September, Jackson Holliday would be the latest Baltimore Orioles prospect to join the Big Leagues. Some of the prospects Baltimore has developed are Adley Rutschman and Gunnar Henderson. Look at the progress they have made with the franchise.
If, for some reason, the Baltimore Orioles feel that Jackson Holliday needs to be not rushed, then being called up to Triple-A to play with the Norfolk Tides would make more sense. It would be a shock if Jackson Holliday was called up to the Big Leagues this season.
