Wesley Matthews is set to return to the Milwaukee Bucks, according to Shams Charania.
Matthews likely chose to return to Milwaukee due to familiarity with the team. Matthews played in Milwaukee in 2019-2020 before leaving in free agency. In his lone season in Milwaukee, Matthews played as the team’s starting two guard. He averaged 7.4 PPG and shot 36% from the 3-point line in his season with the Bucks.
Matthews knows the state of Wisconsin well after playing his high school and college basketball within the state of Wisconsin. Matthews and his father both played their collegiate ball within the state, with Matthews attending Marquette and his father playing at Wisconsin. There must be a little bit of a family rivalry between the two, especially with Marquette set to play Wisconsin on Saturday.
What Wesley Matthews signing means for Bucks
Wesley Matthews returning to the team offers another shooter off the bench.
It may also mean that Donte DiVincenzo’s rehab is not currently in a good spot. Milwaukee signed DeMarcus Cousins earlier on in the week and it was later revealed that starting center Brook Lopez would be out indefinitely after back surgery. We’ll have to stay tuned for updates on DiVincenzo if that history repeats itself.
It will be nice to see Matthews back in Milwaukee, considering he is loved by many Bucks and Marquette fans. Hopefully he is able to contribute to a team looking to repeat as NBA Champions this season.
