The Toronto Blue Jays reportedly have a strong interest in acquiring an NL Central Cy Young contender. This interest would reunite them with a former pitcher of theirs that was with the organization from 2014-2019. In 2019 he was dealt to the New York Mets and eventually signed with the Chicago Cubs. Marcus Stroman is the starting pitcher who is gaining their interest.
Marcus Stroman is receiving strong trade interest from the Toronto Blue Jays (MLB Trade Rumors)
This year Marcus Stroman is poised to make a run at the Cy Young Award. His 20 starts are the most in the National League, he has one shutout on the year, and he has a 2.88 ERA in 118.2 innings pitched. This 2023 All-Star has excelled at limiting home runs and has a 153 ERA+.
Marcus Stroman has been very vocal about wanting a contract extension with the Chicago Cubs. He’s having a career year so now would be an ideal time for him to do this. However the Cubs are not budging, are looking like sellers, and he now finds himself on the trade block.
Should Marcus Stroman reunite with the Toronto Blue Jays he would join a starting rotation consisting of Kevin Gausman, Jose Berriors, Chris Bassitt, Yusei Kikuchi, and Alek Manoah. Hyun Jin Ryu is also expected back in the near future, but this would be a formidable starting rotation down the stretch.
