Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras is playing like a MVP candidate. GM Matt Arnold made that statement prior to Mothers Day in which at that time his offensive numbers were up there with the likes of Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts. Since then the 26 year old has continued to hit and accomplished something that was last done by Ivan Rodriguez in the year 2000.
William Contreras has more than 50 hits through the Milwaukee Brewers first 40 games.
Splitting time between catcher and designated hitter William Contreras has not missed a game this year for the Brewers. He’s been their offensive leader and currently has amassed 54 hits. This currently ranks him third in the league trailing only Shohei Ohtani and Mookie Betts who both have 56 hits.
Ivan Rodriguez was the last catcher to collect at least 50 hits in a team’s first 40 games.
Per StatMuse MLB the last time a catcher had 50 or more hits through the first 40 games of a season was the year 2000. Ivan Rodriguez was the player to do this. With the Texas Rangers that year he had 59 hits through 40 games.

William Contreras is on track to be a special player.
Through 334 career games and 1203 at-bats William Contreras has put up some outstanding offensive numbers. He has a .284/.363/.472 career slash line and already is half way to 100 home runs. 2024 is his second full season in the big leagues and he once again is making a claim to be the best offensive catcher in the game.
