The Green Bay Packers had every chance in the world to make some noise in the NFC playoff picture last Thursday night .However, they simply blew it with a loss to the Tennessee Titans. The loss puts Green Bay at a 4-7 record, with virtually no shot at the playoffs. There is still a chance to end the season with a winning record, though. This Sunday the Packers travel east to take on the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles have struggled the past several weeks, but still remain the team to beat in the NFC. At this point, Green Bay needs to just stay competitive in these tough games. Let’s take a look at three things we can see on Sunday:
Jalen Hurts Accounts for Four Touchdowns
Jalen Hurts has been phenomenal this season for the Philadelphia Eagles. There should be no disagreement that he is a candidate for NFL MVP. Hurts has the entire package. He can run, throw, and make plays when his team needs it the most. Aside from Josh Allen, this will be the Packers’ biggest test of the year. Another thing to mention is that Hurts was available for the Packers in the 2020 NFL Draft, but obviously they went with Jordan Love. To be quite honest, I think Jalen Hurts is going to torch Green Bay’s defense. Joe Barry will stick to what he has been doing all season: play soft and preventive defense and not stop the run. If a defense has not figured out what their identity should be at week 11, chances are they will not find it the rest of the season. I sure hope I am wrong about this, but until Joe Barry can learn to play to his defense’s strength, his unit will struggle to get off the field.
Christian Watson Records Third Straight Game With A Touchdown
Packer fans should be very excited for the future at the wide receiver position. Christian Watson has proven the past several weeks why he was worth the jump in the NFL Draft. At some point this season, we knew that one of the rookie receivers had to take the next step. At first it seemed to be Romeo Doubs after his stellar performance in the preseason. However, inconsistent play and an injury put a damper on that. I thin what has helped Watson the most this season is that despite not being on the field a ton, he is still involved heavily in the offense. It sometimes can take just one play or one drive for a young rookie to hit their spark and display their confidence. We have seen that with Christian Watson the past two games. I don’t think he is the top target yet, but come next season, with a lot of question marks at the receiver position, he will have that opportunity to make his cause for that title.
Green Bay Falls In The City Of Brotherly Love
There is no doubt that the Philadelphia Eagles are an overall better team than the Green Bay Packers. Green Bay simply has dug themselves too much of a hole to get out of and have repeated issues that will not be fixed by season’s end. I think if the Packers can stay competitive throughout the game, that will be a win for this team. No one expected Green Bay to be in this position at the start of the season. I think that the biggest problem has been that teams in the NFC, like the Philadelphia Eagles, have worked to improve their roster; whereas Green Bay has settled with their roster. This has been apparent all season long. For the remaining six games, we need to just sit back and see how this team responds to been essentially eliminated from the postseason and what to look forward to next season.
