Derrick Rose was once a MVP and one of the brightest stars in the league. After a knee injury limited him, he began to re-invent himself as one of the best backup point guards in the NBA. This is an area of concern on the Bucks’ roster. While Jevon Carter played inspired basketball after he was acquired midseason, he was buried on the bench during the playoffs. Furthermore, George Hill completely disappeared in the playoffs after the worst season of his professional career. Sam DiGiovanni of ClutchPoints proposed a trade that would help the Bucks turn this weakness into a strength by acquiring Derrick Rose.

The Bucks Have Wanted Derrick Rose for a While

As mentioned, Derrick Rose has re-invented himself as one of the best backup point guards in the NBA. For this reason, he has actually been a trade target of the Bucks before. Most recently, Milwaukee tried to acquire rose in ahead of the trade deadline in 2021. Unfortunately for them, they could not get a deal done and Rose was traded to the New York Knicks.
It is no secret that the Milwaukee Bucks are in desperate need of bench scoring. With Bobby Portis returning, they have one scoring threat off the bench locked in. However, beyond Portis, the bench struggled in the playoffs. In his career as a sixth man (five seasons), Derick Rose has averaged 8.4, 18.0, 18.1, 14.7, and 12.0 points per game.
Entering his age 33 season, Derrick Rose is not the explosive player that he once was. However, he can still make plays and is a fairly decent shooter. Last season, he shot a career-best 40% from three. Adding him alongside Portis and Pat Connaughton would give the Milwaukee Bucks one of the best bench threats in the NBA.
