The Green Bay Packers’ offense has been firing on all cylinders as of late. Their last three wins against the Los Angeles Chargers, Detroit Lions, and Kansas City Chiefs has featured an offense that averaged nearly 27 points per game. Jordan Love and his young core of weapons have started to gel the way the front office has hoped.
That being said, the Packers have a plethora of young wide receivers. One too many possibly.
The Green Bay Packers Are Expected To Move On From Wide Receiver Samori Toure According To A Report
Sayre Bedinger of Fansided annotated why Toure is likely the odd man out in Green Bay:
Samori Toure has fallen to the bottom of the Packers’ wide receiver depth chart. The second-year receiver played 88 offensive snaps in the opening four games of the season, but his opportunities decreased dramatically once Christian Watson returned from injury in Week 5.
Toure played 14 snaps over the next three games but has since been inactive four times in five weeks. Notably, undrafted rookie Malik Heath has moved ahead of him on the depth chart.
Even with Watson likely out this week due to injury, Toure probably won’t play many snaps, even if he is active. Jayden Reed, Romeo Doubs, Dontayvion Wicks, and Heath are all playing regular snaps, and Watson will take back his starting role when he returns.
It’s tough to see where the opportunities will come from for Toure. The Packers may want to add another receiver to the mix in the offseason. They still arguably lack a true WR1.
Toure has been active for 19 games across two seasons but has made only 10 catches for 144 yards and a touchdown. With a young, unproven receiving corps, this was the year to make an impact and earn more snaps, but it doesn’t seem like Toure is in the Packers’ plans.
Would The Packers Actually Move On From Samori Toure?
Toure’s snap counts in 2023 have been low and inconsistent. According to Pro Football Reference, the wideout played 16% of the team’s offensive snaps over 11 games last year and 23% in seven appearances this year.
Through his first two seasons Toure has 10 receptions for 144 yards and one touchdown. Toure could certainly be a weapon in the league if he got more opportunities. however, he has been buried for two straight seasons now. Moving on from Toure may be a legitimate option for this team moving forward.
