The St. Louis Cardinals are currently managed by Oli Marmol. He surprisingly replaced Mike Shildt in which the former Red Birds skipper was the 2019 Manager of the Year and he led the team to three consecutive post-season appearances. Currently Mike Shildt is a coach with the San Diego Padres but he was recently linked as a potential replacement for Buck Showalter of the New York Mets.
Former St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Shildt listed as potential replacement for New York Mets Buck Showalter (MLB News).
This season the Mets have been one of the leagues most disappointing teams. It is possible that a change in the manager could be on the horizon. If this occurs Mike Shildt could make some sense. Josue De Jesus of Fansided had the following to say on the matter.
The firing of Mike Shildt took MLB players and managers by surprise. Yadier Molina argued that whatever the reasons, in the clubhouse the communication was fluid, guaranteeing that Shidlt has the skills to command a contending team.
Mike Shildt could bring his Cardinals experience to the Mets in a cultural shift for a clubhouse that still has some work to do. His background gives him the respect the players would have for him, and his record would augur a better performance for the team on the pitch.
The 2023 regular season ends in approximately six weeks, so around then we should know if the Mets will be searching for a new manager or not.
