The Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers could be in the midst of yet another long-term conference rivalry. The Packers seem to have found their next franchise quarterback in Jordan Love. The San Francisco 49ers just made it to the Super Bowl with 24-year-old Brock Purdy at the helm.
The two franchises could be competing against each other in the playoffs for the better part of the next decade. Today, it was reported that the 49ers signed a former Packers running back.
The San Francisco 49ers Sign Former Green Bay Packers Running Back
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that former Green Bay Packers running back Patrick Taylor has signed a one-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers.
The Packers did not tender Taylor to a restricted contract after he played 34 games for the team over three seasons. Thus, he was an unrestricted free agent in 2024.
As part of their offseason moves, the Packers traded for Josh Jacobs in exchange for Aaron Jones, re-signed A.J. Dillon and tendered exclusive rights free agent Emanuel Wilson at running back this offseason.
Patrick Taylor Will Get A Fresh Start With The 49ers
As a result of his 226 snaps and 43 touches (32 rushing, 11 catching) in 2023, Taylor set career highs in snaps and touches.
It is likely that the Packers will use the draft to fill running back depth in the wake of Taylor’s departure for San Francisco.
Taylor was signed by the Packers as an undrafted free agent out of Memphis in 2020. During his time with the Packers, he carried the ball 65 times for 261 yards and one touchdown, and caught 14 passes for 69 yards on 20 targets. He played 322 offensive snaps and 276 special teams snaps during his tenure.
