The San Francisco 49ers have running back Christian McCaffrey healthy ahead of their divisional round showdown with the Green Bay Packers, and Kyle Shanahan admits the superstar is just raring to play.
McCaffrey’s status for the Saturday game with the Packers is a major talking point, especially since he’s dealing with a calf injury that can be tricky to recover from. Interestingly, the 49ers had him as a full participant during their latest practice on Tuesday, indicating that he’s fully healthy.
Sure enough, that is quite the bad news for the Packers, since it has become clear that they will have to deal with a full-strength and well-rested McCaffrey in the playoffs along with his MVP candidate running mate Brock Purdy.
Making it worse for the Packers, they are dealing with a number of injuries of their own, with cornerback Jaire Alexander, running back Aaron Jones and wide receiver Christian Watson all limited participants in their recent practice. RB AJ Dillon remains sidelined as well amid his neck issues.
Kyle Shanahan’s Christian McCaffrey Update Ahead of San Francisco 49ers vs. Green Bay Packers
During his interview with media personnel on Tuesday as they prepare for the Green Bay Packers, Kyle Shanahan provided more insights on Christian McCaffrey’s physical and mental condition amid the running back’s injury return.
In a response that will send some fears into the hears of the Green Bay faithful, the San Francisco 49ers head coach revealed that McCaffrey is as hungry as he has ever been.
“I think he’s geared up and ready to go. Same way he was last year. Probably the same way he was in his playoff game when he was five years old too, or scrimmage that week. Christian’s always the same. He’s always waiting for that moment. He’s been waiting for this moment for a while,” Shanahan said of McCaffrey.
While the Packers can only focus on themselves as they prepare for the playoffs, they know very well the threat that McCaffrey brings. With that being said, Jordan Love and Co. really have no room for errors and need to be perfect come Saturday.
