    Joey Porter Jr. Scouting Report

Per NFL Draft Buzz, Porter Jr. has the following strengths and weaknesses:

    Strengths

    • Long, lean, and a very fluid mover
    • Shows good route recognition
    • Tracks the ball well and has natural ball skills
    • His length and leaping ability allow him to high-point the ball and make plays. Porter would have had bigger interception numbers in college had opposing quarterbacks not gone out of their way to avoid him

    Weaknesses

    • Better in press coverage than in off coverage
    • Tendency to get grabby with receivers

Joey Porter Jr. in Mock Drafts

According to NFL Mock Draft Database, Porter Jr. is a projected first-round pick. The ability of route recognition and ball skills make him an intriguing prospect for all teams. His weaknesses are all coachable. Many college corners tend to be more grabby and the coaching staff just has to coach it out of him. Below is a list of mock drafts and where they have Porter Jr. being drafted.

    • SB Nation – No. 6 overall: Lions
    • CBS Sports – No. 16 overall: Commanders
    • Sports Illustrated – No. 17 overall: Steelers
    • USA Today – No. 17 overall: Steelers
    • Pro Football Focus – No. 29 overall: Broncos

Would Joey Porter Jr. Fit on the Packers?

The Packers are pretty deep at the cornerback position. Jaire Alexander, Eric Stokes, and Rasul Douglas occupy the top three spots on the depth chart. However, depth is never a bad thing especially with Stokes coming off an injury. GM Brian Gutekunst is not one to make many trades but picking up Porter Jr. could make Stokes or Douglas tradeable for another piece.

Check Out Another Prospect That Could Fit For the Packers

The ability of Porter Jr. to make plays on the ball is what would be most intriguing for the Packers. The push at the end of the season for the Packers was fueled by turnovers by the defense. Teams would not be able to avoid Porter Jr. on the Packers as they did in college. Alexander and Douglas love making plays on the ball and Porter Jr. would fit right in. Cornerback is not a need but if Porter Jr. is there at no. 15, the Packers might give him a look.
