The Packers could switch a rookies role with the team
The Green Bay Packers left Thursday night’s loss to the Tennessee Titans with more questions than answers. Offensively, the Packers need to move the ball in high-pressure situations. On defense, the team must look at everything from coverage to the pass rush. One suggestion to fix the Packers’ pass rush would be to switch up a rookie’s role with the team.
The defense couldn’t get off the field when the Packers needed them to. The Titans made big plays on third down when it mattered and possessed the ball at will in the first half. A lot of that was due to the Packers missing their best pass rusher, Rashan Gary. He’s out for the rest of the season with an ACL injury.
Walker is as explosive an athlete as the Packers have on that side of the ball – he ran a 4.52-second 40 at the NFL scouting combine and has enough height (6-3¾) and weight (241 pounds) to suggest he might be able to rush occasionally from the outside to go along with blitzing from his regular inside linebacker position. In this time of desperation at 4-7 and with Gary’s season finished, the Packers should find out if Walker can add something to their rush.
The Packers may as well see what they have in Walker
With a 4-7 record, the Packers may as well switch up the rookie’s role to see what he can do coming from the edge. The team needs to try something different to be more competitive. The Packers also need to start developing their young talent for the future. The Packers’ playoff hopes could be eliminated in the coming weeks. They need to use that time to evaluate what talent they have. Walker could bring more to the defense than just his skills as an inside linebacker.
