The Green Bay Packers defeated the Chicago Bears 27-10 on Sunday night. As they turn their attention to a Week Three showdown with Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, they have also decided to cut ties with one of their young injured wide receivers. Per the NFL’s transaction wire, the Packers released Osirus Mitchell with an injury settlement on Monday.
Osirus Mitchell Dealt with Injury for Most of His Time with the Packers
Osirus Mitchell signed with the Packers in late July. Prior to joining the Packers, Mitchell had spent time with the Dallas Cowboys practice squad.

Unfortunately, not long after signing, Mitchell suffered a quad injury and was waived by the team.

Mitchell cleared waivers and returned to the Packers on injured reserve. His injury settlement with Green Bay now gives him the chance to sign with another NFL team. Either that, or he could return to the USFL where he put up 47 receptions for 331 yards and three touchdowns with the Birmingham Stallions.

Do Not Expect the Packers to Go Get Another Wide Receiver
If the Packers’ Week Two win over the Chicago Bears showed us anything about the 2022 offense, it is that they can win without a Davante Adams-like wide receiver. By this, I mean that the ball will be spread pretty evenly among the active wide receivers. Additionally, the running backs will play a major role in the passing game. Aaron Jones tied for the team lead in receptions on Sunday night with three (for 38 yards and a touchdown). Sammy Watkins also had three receptions (for 93 yards).
With Allen Lazard healthy and playing, the Packers did not elevate Juwann Winfree to the gameday roster again. They also listed rookie Samori Toure as inactive for the second week in a row. These moves/non-moves indicate that Matt LaFleur and the coaching staff are happy with the wide receivers they have. Any notion that the Packers may go after another free agent wide receiver at this point in the season is simply untrue. That being said, they could be in the market for one later in the season, depending on production and injuries.
