The Packers are going to need to retool their roster in the offseason. As always, there are questions about what players the Packers need to target in free agency. The Packers have been more active in free agency under Brian Gutekunst so expect him to test the market. Similar to past offseasons, people are suggesting the Packers should look at the WR position in free agency. One NFL scout says the Packers should target this free agent WR.
The Packers Should Target This Free Agent WR
Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs have shown enough to be optimistic about their development. However, getting a veteran receiver in the room would be even more helpful to their development. One NFL scout thinks the Packers should target free agent WR Jarvis Landry. Many thought the Packers should’ve signed Landry this offseason but he decided to go with the Saints. While Landry is far from a number-one receiver, the Packers do not need that. They need a savvy veteran who can make big plays when needed. Landry could be that receiver.
Landry Would Help Replace Veterans Leaving
The Sammy Watkins experiment has failed and it is unlikely that Randall Cobb comes back. If both of those players leave, the Packers are left with a bunch of second-year players. While they have shown promise, veteran help is needed. This season, Cobb has been huge in the games he has played, making big catches on third down often. Landry would essentially slot right into that role.
The Packers are going to need veteran help next season. They have a generally young team but are still hoping to compete for a Super Bowl. The right veterans are necessary in order to make a run. Maybe Jarvis Landry is the free agent WR the Packers need.
