Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst gave a short and telling answer about what he’s learned about fourth-year quarterback Jordan Love in training camp this season. The Packers are trusting Love to lead the Packers this season after trading Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets.
President Mark Murphy said it would take about half the season before they have a better feel about Love’s capabilities with the Packers long term. That’s a good thing for Love, as he and the rest of the first-team offense have struggled through the first several practices to win in competitive periods against the defense.
Green Bay Packers GM talks about Jordan Love’s progress
The Packers didn’t practice Friday, but Gutekunst held a press conference Friday afternoon. He was asked about what he had learned about his new starting quarterback after the first two weeks of camp. According to Rob Demovsky with ESPN, Gutekusnt bluntly said he didn’t have a read on Love:
“Not much,” Gutekunst said. He followed it up by saying the defense came out firing at training camp like they did last summer.
“[Love has] done a really nice job. Just like last year, the defense kinda had the offense early,” he said.

Love is working with rookie and second-year pass catchers. It’s going to take time for those players to get in rhythm. Gutekunst understands that it’s impossible to know where Love is until they play an opponent.
However, Gutekunst is also admitting he knows the Packers’ defense is dominating Love and the offense in training camp this year. That doesn’t mean the offense is a lost cause, but Love hasn’t shown he’s the guy yet.
