If the Green Bay Packers are going to improve in 2023 over their disappointing 2022 season, several things need to happen. Jordan Love needs to play better than Aaron Rodgers did last year. To do that, he needs to build the chemistry with the young pass catchers that Rodgers refused to do. Of course, teams can have all the chemistry in the world, and it would mean nothing if they also did not have talent. Fortunately for the Packers, they have an abundance of talent, it’s just incredibly young and inexperienced.

This means that fans and analysts alike simply do not know how good (or bad) the Packers will be until they take the field in the regular season. All we have is what the players have to say about each other. Now, if you’re the kind of person who buys into what the players say, then you are going to love what Love said about rookie tight end Luke Musgrave.
Jordan Love Has High Praise for Green Bay Packers 2nd Round Pick Luke Musgrave
The Packers, of course, were forced to focus on the tight end position in the 2023 NFL Draft due to the departure of Robert Tonyan in free agency to the Chicago Bears. Marcedes Lewis remains an unsigned free agent, but Green Bay has committed to a youth movement on their roster. As a result, they took tight ends Luke Musgrave in the second round and Tucker Kraft in the third round.
Of the two, Musgrave is believed to have the higher ceiling, though that is not a knock on Kraft. Both are extremely talented. Over the past couple of weeks (OTA’s and mini camp), media members covering the Packers have shared film clips of Musgrave that have fans incredibly excited to see him in action. When Love was asked about Musgrave during a recent interview, he said:
“First impression of Luke, he’s going to be a great player. He’s a lot faster than anybody thought, on tape just watching him. He’s picking up the offense really fast, he’s getting a lot of reps right now, which is great for him. He’s making the most of it. Learning every day, not making the same mistake twice. And he’s catching the ball really well right now, he’s making plays.”
Despite the numerous quality tight ends in this year’s draft, many were somewhat surprised that Musgrave fell to the second round. His injury last season which limited him to two games might have had something to do with that.
However, his pass-catching abilities were never in question. If he can stay healthy and improve his blocking, Musgrave could very well be the best tight end the Packers have had since JerMichael Finley.
In any case, it is great to see Love forming bonds and building chemistry with the young pass catchers. This is something that Packers fans have not seen for a couple of years now. It will be interesting to see how a team that is on the same page with itself will perform in the 2023 regular season.
