Aaron Rodgers is not surprised to see Jordan Love’s recent success with the Green Bay Packers. However, he doesn’t want Cheeseheads to put too much pressure on the young quarterback.
As Rodgers reminded the Green Bay faithful, Love is only 25 years old and still in his first year as a starter. With that said, crowning him this early and putting unreal expectations on him might not be too good for his growth and confidence.
The former Packers MVP quarterback shared as much in his weekly appearance at The Pat MacAfee Show, wherein he also heaped praise on Love and the work he’s doing with Green Bay.
Aaron Rodgers Shows Love for Jordan Love
In the show, Aaron Rodgers was asked if he’s surprised by how Jordan Love is currently performing as a starter. This 2023 season so far, the young QB has already tallied 2866 yards and 22 touchdowns on 61.3 percent pass completion.
With five games remaining for the Packers, Love is actually well on track to match, or even maybe surpass, Rodgers’ tally in his first year as a starter for Green Bay. Back in 2008 when Rodgers officially took over as QB1 from Brett Favre, he recorded 4038 yards and 28 touchdowns on 63.6 percent pass completion.
Considering Love’s success–having also led the Packers to back-to-back wins against top dogs Detroit Lions and Kansas City Chiefs in Weeks 12 and 13, respectively–many fans are unsurprisingly crowning him as the next great QB from Green Bay.
While Rodgers understands the hype, however, he wants fans to stop putting such enormous pressure on Love.
“He’s playing, especially the last three games, outstanding. But, he’s in his first year starting. As well as he’s playing, can we not crown him right now? For his own sake. Because, we shouldn’t do that to kids. We shouldn’t crown them, and we shouldn’t cancel them,” Rodgers said of Love.
“I love Jordan and I think he’s gonna be a great player in the league for a long time, but can we let him play his career?”

Rodgers certainly makes a great point. By having such high expectations on Love, fans might not be giving him enough room to grow and make mistakes. Rodgers understands that kind of pressure very well and how it can be a blow in someone’s confidence if they aren’t able to meet the massive expectations.
Hopefully, though, Love is someone who doesn’t crack under pressure and instead further grow from it. There will always be plenty of eyes on him considering the big shoes he needs to fill. So far, it’s looking really good for him.
