2. San Francisco 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers, much like the Packers, let a veteran kicker go last season in lieu of putting the ball on a rookie’s legs. The 49ers moved on from Robby Gould. They drafted Jake Moody in the third round.
Moody didn’t play well in his first preseason game with the 49ers. He went 0-for-2 on field goals. He did nail his only extra-point attempt.
While the 49ers might not want to move on from Moody just yet, they could bring in Crosby as a safety net in training camp.
The 49ers have lofty aspirations this season. They’re in the hunt to make the Super Bowl this year after losing in the NFC Championship Game in January. In a sport with tight margins, the 49ers can’t afford to shave points with a rookie kicker who’s got the yips.
