After a noteworthy Green Bay Packers QB1 debut, Jordan Love is now looking to take it to another level moving forward. The 24-year-old has already said that he intends to use his strong performance in Green Bay’s Week 1 victory over the Chicago Bears as a “building block” for what he’s hoping will be an eye-opening debut season for him as the Packers‘ new cornerstone quarterback.
Jordan Love Looking to Build Off Strong Green Bay Packers QB1 Debut
At this point, however, Love won’t be basking in his own glory. He may have put most of the doubt and uncertainty to bed with his opening-day performance, but he is well aware of the fact that the job is far from done. According to the former first-round pick, he will “never ever try and get complacent out there.”
It all begins again on Sunday when Love tests his mettle against a formidable Atlanta Falcons defense. Atlanta is coming off an impressive 24-10 Week 1 win over the Carolina Panthers, and it goes without saying that their defensive schemes played a key role in their victory. One man, in particular, shone brightly in his Falcons debut.
Jordan Love Wary of Atlanta Falcons Defensive Star
Atlanta paid a high price to recruit safety Jessie Bates III from the Cincinnati Bengals this summer via free agency. Well, the Falcons have already gotten some early returns on their investment following Bates’ tremendous debut against the Panthers.
Bates had two interceptions against Carolina while also forcing one fumble. All three takeaways led to Atlanta getting on the board, which is why it came as no surprise that the 26-year-old was honored with the NFC Defensive Player of the Week title.
Jordan Love knows what Bates is capable of, and the Packers QB is well aware of what he’s about to face on Sunday:
“He’s a ball hawk,” Love said, via Mike Spofford of the team website. “He’s just a vet. He’s been around. He’s played a lot of ball, and I think he’s a savvy guy.
“He plays in the post and makes quick reads on quarterbacks’ eyes, and he triggers very hard on passes.”
Love and the Packers have done their scouting on Atlanta’s new defensive star, and they’re ready for whatever Bates will bring to the table on Sunday.
“You’ve just got to make quick decisions and not stare receivers down,” Love said. “Then you’ve just got to know where he’s at, know he’ll probably jump a lot of your passes, and just be aware of that.”
Preparation and practice are all well and good, but all of this will be put to the test when they take to the field.
