Pro Football Focus (PFF) has just finished their annual reveal of the top 50 NFL players. The Green Bay Packers, in the midst of uncertainty and a massive youth movement, only have one representative on the list. That would be two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Jaire Alexander who came in ranked #28. Former Packers players Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams were also on the list.
Alexander was the fourth-highest ranked cornerback on the list with Sauce Gardner, Patrick Surtain, and Jalen Ramsey being ranked higher. Interestingly, in their earlier ranking of cornerbacks only, PFF had Alexander ranked fifth.
Green Bay Packers Cornerback Jaire Alexander Outranks Aaron Rodgers in PFF Top 50
Alexander ranks below Adams, who came in as the eighth-best NFL player in their ranking. However, Alexander did rank higher than Rodgers, who came in at 45th. Of Alexander, PFF wrote:
“The 2021 injury seems to have led to Jaire Alexander being something of a forgotten man when it comes to the NFL’s elite cornerbacks, but last season he had a very impressive bounce-back year, allowing just a 66.2 passer rating into his coverage and only two touchdowns all season. At his best, Alexander is a ballhawk in the secondary with the coverage chops to stick to any receiver. And at 26 years old, there’s no reason we can’t see his best again next year.”
It is worth noting that Alexander was just given the second-highest ranking in Madden ’24 among cornerbacks. Indeed, he seems to be the only Packers player who is consistently garnering the respect and praise that he deserves from national outlets. As Kenny Clark said, the team has been getting disrespected all season.
Alexander will be a leader on a defense that is looking to finally achieve its full potential. With eight first round picks (when everyone is healthy), there is no reason for the unit to be as inconsistent as it has been. Alexander has always been a stabilizing force, and hopefully the rest of the defense can match his level of excellence.
