Former Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Dean Lowry signed with the Minnesota Vikings this season. This development was viewed by many Packers fans as a win for their team. Aside from 2021 when he had 5.0 sacks, Lowry was largely a non-factor on defense. His inability to shed blocks allowed opposing offenses to double-team Kenny Clark, making the Packers’ run defense and interior pass rush ineffective.
After leaving Green Bay for Minnesota, Lowry took some parting shots at the Packers front office and coaching staff. It seems he was just as unhappy with the team as fans were with him.
Well now it’s another fan base’s turn to be frustrated with Lowry’s play. Through two games with the Vikings, Lowry has once again proven to be ineffective and a pushover on defense. Vikings and Packers fans alike took to social media on Thursday night to point out his poor play against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Fans Put Former Green Bay Packers Defensive Lineman Dean Lowry on Blast

On Thursday night, Lowry finished a single tackle as the Vikings defense was trampled by the Eagles’ running attack. Philadelphia put up 259 yards on the ground, led by D’Andre Swift’s 175 yards on on 26 carries. The Eagles offensive line and other blockers mauled Lowry, who simply could not do anything to stop the run up front.
And boy, did fans ever let him have it on social media:
I am often told “Aaron, you’re such a Gutekunst apologist, you never admit when he makes mistakes” Very well. Signing Dean Lowry to an extension was a mistake, There you go.

The eagles are abusing Dean Lowry.

Harrison Phillips and Dean Lowry are so washed. Cine and Booth didn’t play tonight. Kwesi has been a disaster and it’s not being talked about enough. #skol

Dean Lowry, Harrison Phillips, Bullard, and Tonga can all WALK home

I’m glad the Vikings are getting beaten down, but I’m not going to praise the Eagles offensive line for manhandling Dean Lowry and Harrison Phillips lmao

Can we just cut Dean Lowry right now ? Is it too late to take that off of the comp pick formula?

Vikings fans may have to get used to Lowry, at least for the rest of this season and all of 2024. He signed a two-year deal with Minnesota worth $8.5 million. All but $600,000 of it is guaranteed money.
In other words, the Vikings would not really save any money by cutting him.
The Green Bay Packers Have Replaced Dean Lowry with Devonte Wyatt

Last season, Lowry was given a starting job and playing time over rookie Devonte Wyatt. Lowry played so poorly that Packers Hall of Famer Gilbert Brown called for him to be benched. When Lowry went down with an injury for a couple of games, Wyatt played well in his place and made the decision no bring Lowry back an easy one.
This year, Lowry has four tackles in two games played. Wyatt, on the other hand, had three tackles and 1.5 sacks in Green Bay’s 38-20 win over the Chicago Bears in Week One. Wyatt also had six quarterback pressures, more than anyone else on the team.
The Minnesota Vikings Are 0-2

With their 34-28 loss to the Eagles, the Vikings fell to 0-2 on the season. Last year, they won the NFC North with a record of 13-4 and were 11-0 in one-score games. That was very fortunate for them, and many outside of Minnesota did not think it was sustainable.
And then the Vikings let Pro Bowl pass rusher Za’Darius Smith go. They also cut Pro Bowl running back Dalvin Cook.
In other words, they got worse. Ironically, their Week One loss to Tampa Bay Buccaneers was also a one-score game. Last season, they built their season on those games; now they cannot seem to do enough to win them.
