NFL: The Green Bay Packers loaded up on talent in the 2023 Draft. Headlined by Lukas Van Ness, Jayden Reed, Tucker Kraft, and Luke Musgrave, there seems to be plenty of excitement surrounding the new additions to the team. However, there is one 2023 draft pick that may be in jeopardy of losing his chance to make the 53-man roster.
Kicker Anders Carlson In Early Jeopardy Of Losing A Roster Spot On The Green Bay Packers (NFL)
After a dismal 2-of-7 outing on Saturday, all eyes were on Green Bay Packers rookie kicker Anders Carlson during Tuesday’s practice. Unfortunately, Carlson didn’t bounce back like many on the team hoped he would. He finished the day with a 5-of-8 mark (62.5%) that included missing a game-winning attempt.
As a whole, the NFL made 85% of its kicks in 2022. Right now, Carlson is officially 12-of-20 in camp, per reports. Robin Adams of Wisconsin Sports Heroics highlighted how fans were begging for Mason Crosby back after the first few practices:
All offseason, up until the draft and after it, Packers fans have been pretty outspoken about wanting Crosby back for one more season. These opinions got even louder on Saturday after Carlson went a woeful 1-6 on field goal attempts during Saturday’s practice.
It is understandable that fans would miss a fan favorite immediately after he leaves. It is also understandable that they are skeptical of a rookie kicker.
It will be interesting to see if Anders Carlson makes the 53-man roster for the 2023 season. It is clear the Packers coaching staff will have to see improvement out of him prior to the season starting before they feel confident rolling with him in week one.
