After allowing 36 runs, losing 15-5 yesterday, and getting swept in three games against the New York Yankees, the Milwaukee Brewers lost their first-place spot in the NL Central division. They came back to American Family Field to face off against another AL East opponent, the Tampa Bay Rays. Last night, the Brewers took their third loss in a row with a 1-0 loss to the Rays. Milwaukee’s offense was only able to manage three hits throughout this entire ballgame.
With their third loss in a row, the Brewers are 17-11. They sit a half-game behind the Chicago Cubs for first place in the NL Central. Tampa Bay improves to 14-16 with the win. The Rays are still at the bottom of the AL East division sitting five games behind the Baltimore Orioles, and the Yankees for first place. Milwaukee will look to grab a win, regain some confidence, and climb back up the NL Central standings.
Milwaukee Brewers Freighting 3-Hit Loss Against the Rays

Bryse Wilson took the mound for the Milwaukee Brewers for the first game of their three-game series against the Rays. During the top of the first inning, Wilson allowed the bases to be loaded with no outs. Tampa Bay’s third baseman Issac Paredes hit into a double play. However, designated hitter Yandy Díaz scored home giving the Rays a 1-0 lead. No runs would come across the board after this point. Rays starting pitcher Ryan Pepiot got out of some trouble during the bottom of the sixth inning with two outs, a runner at third, and a full count, Brewers catcher William Contreras grounded out.
During the bottom of the ninth inning, Milwaukee’s manager Pat Murphy was ejected from the ball game, because Murphy argued about the Brewers’ game-tying run being erased due to first baseman Jake Bauer’s bat hitting Rays catcher René Pinto in the mask. the Brewers had the bases loaded with two outs. Milwaukee’s centerfielder Blake Perkins faced a 0-2 count. Tampa Bay reliever Jason Adams obtained the strikeout to give the Rays a 1-0 lead. This was Adams first recorded save of the season.
The Brewers Offense Has Struggled Since Being Crushed by New York

Both starting pitchers, Brewers’ Bryse Wilson and Rays’ Ryan Pepiot pitched great on the mound. Wilson pitched six innings allowing one run on four hits, and two walks while striking out six batters in the loss. Pepiot pitched six innings allowing just two hits, while striking out seven in this impressive win. In four out of his last five outings, Pepiot has pitched in six innings, recording three straight quality starts for the first time in his career.
Sal Frelick, William Contreras, and Joey Ortiz recorded the only three hits for the Brewers during this heartbreaking loss. Both Frelick and Contreras went one for four at the plate, while Ortiz went one for three. Tampa Bay’s pitching rotation recorded 12 strikeouts against the Brewers. Milwaukee’s offense has not been the same since the Brewer’s tantalizing 15-3 loss to the New York Yankees. The Brewers pitching staff allowed 30 runs in their last two games of that series against the Yankees, while the offense only scored eight runs. The Brewers offense must find a way to bring their guys home every time around in much-needed and big-time situations.
