NFL: Week one is quickly approaching for the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers. Jordan Love and the Packers will travel to Soldier Field to take on Justin Fields and the Bears on September 10th. That game marks the start of a new era for both teams. The Packers are trying to figure out if they have their third franchise quarterback in a row.
The Bears feel like this is the year that Fields can prove he is that franchise quarterback for the Bears. That being said, the Bears are already facing one major disadvantage going into the season. They lost their best offensive lineman for, at least, the first mont of the season. Today, they lost another.
Chicago Bears Lose Offensive Lineman Darnell Wright To Injury (NFL)
Bears rookie right tackle Darnell Wright is the team’s latest starting offensive lineman to suffer an injury.
Wright limped off the practice field Tuesday at Halas Hall after having his right ankle rolled up during team drills. Wright stayed in practice for two plays after his ankle was banged up before leaving for an evaluation with the Bears’ medical staff. He didn’t return to action.
Bears coach Matt Eberflus didn’t have an immediate update on Wright’s status after practice Tuesday. The No. 10 overall pick in the NFL Draft, Wright has been the Bears’ starting right tackle all throughout the offseason program and preseason.
The Bears went into training camp stressing the value of continuity for their offensive line, which was set with five starters during the offseason program. That vision has been challenged by injuries.
Bears left guard Teven Jenkins is considered “week-to-week” with a leg injury, Eberflus said Tuesday. Jenkins is expected to miss the start of the regular season, the Tribune has reported. The team could shift Cody Whitehair into the left guard role and slide Lucas Patrick in at center.
The Green Bay Packers Are Getting Healthier Along The Defensive Line
Packers edge rusher Rashan Gary is taking another positive step in his recovery from a torn ACL. Via multiple reporters, head coach Matt LaFleur said in his Tuesday press conference that Gary will participate in 11-on-11 drills on Tuesday.
Gary started training camp on the physically unable to perform list, but came off of it on Aug. 7. He’s been doing work in individual drills, but now he’ll be able to ramp things up by participating with the rest of the defense.
The Packers currently have Lukas Van Ness, Preston Smith, Rashan Gary, Kenny Clark, Kingsley Enagbare, and Devonte Wyatt as their potential rotation going into week one. That is a formidable defensive line against any offensive line, let alone one who is down multiple starters. The Packers defense has to be excited for their opportunities come September 10th when they take on the Bears.
