Is Jordan Love the future quarterback of the Green Bay Packers?
Aaron Rodgers has only so many more seasons to be an elite quarterback for the Green Bay Packers. This season might be the best opportunity for the team to win before Rodgers’ Super Bowl Window closes. 2023 doesn’t look good for the Packers’ cap space. Rodgers might not want to play or be the same player in the 2024 season. Will the Packers trust quarterback Jordan Love to carry the torch if the 38-year-old leaves after this season?
That’s a question that will be put to the test this season. Love is now in his third NFL season. He hasn’t played much, as he’s been behind Rodgers on the depth chart since coming into the league. Love’s one start for the Packers didn’t go well against the Kansas City Chiefs last season. He’s thrown two touchdowns to three interceptions in his career.
The Packers could trade Love to maximize their chances this season
One analyst suggested this week that the Packers should look to maximize their chances of winning the Super Bowl this season. One way the Packers could improve would be to elevate the talent on the starting roster. Since Rodgers and Jordan Love can’t start at the same time, Alex Ballentine wrote that the Packers should put the former first-round draft pick on the trading block:
Rodgers is not looking like an All-Pro through three games, but he is breaking in a new-look group of receivers, with fourth-round pick Romeo Doubs looking the most impressive thus far.
That’s not an ideal situation for Love if he takes over next season.
Should Rodgers decide to hang up his cleats after this season, Green Bay will still be a tempting landing spot for veteran quarterbacks looking to change teams in 2023. With their elite defense and a strong offensive play-caller in LaFleur, they should have options.
Through three seasons, we still don’t know what Love is. If there’s a team willing to pay up to find out, the Packers should be willing to listen.
The Packers would probably have a better chance of winning this year if they could land a stud tight end, wide receiver, or egde rusher. Ballentine’s suggestion that a veteran quarterback might want to come to Green Bay next year is a tempting thought. That might be preferable to Love. Unfortunately, no one knows if Love will be a solid starter in the NFL yet.
The Packers should see what they can get for Love this season. It doesn’t hurt to entertain options. With all of the injuries at the position this year, the Packers could wind up getting a sweet deal from a desperate team. An essential addition to the Packers could put this team into the Super Bowl history books.
