The New York Mets are already hearing the noise from the media after getting swept this past weekend against the Milwaukee Brewers. Milwaukee won on Sunday by a final score of 4-1. Everything went right in this series for the Brewers and everything went wrong in this series for the Mets.
Rhys Hoskins started all of the drama on Friday when he slid into Jeff McNeil and McNeil and Hoskins jawed back and forth at each other. On Saturday, Hoskins was thrown at and also hit a home run in the same game. Pitcher Yohan Ramirez was suspended for three games for throwing at him and manager Carlos Mendoza was also suspended for Sunday’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers.
Mets players spoke out about getting swept against the Brewers. One of those players, outfielder Brandon Nimmo knows it doesn’t matter what time of year it is. They are going to hear the noise if they are losing. He told Dan Martin of the New York Post by saying:
“It’s just something you’ve got to overcome. Whether we lost three games in a row now or lost three games in a row in June, it would be the same questions. We just have to focus on the next game. There’s gonna be bad times during the year, we might as well deal with it at the beginning.”
The Mets missed the playoffs last season and they need to get out of the gutter in a hurry if they are going to make the playoffs and not have their season end by the month of April. It is a team that looks lost already to start the season.
New York Mets Star Player Shortstop Francisco Lindor Also Speaks Out About Getting Swept Against the Milwaukee Brewers
Lindor receives a lot of heat from the Mets fanbase when he doesn’t perform. Francisco Lindor also told the New York Post after the game on Sunday:
“It’s tough to win games if your No. 2 guy doesn’t get on base. I need to contribute to the team more than I have the past couple of games. I’m still extremely optimistic. “I feel really good. They’re just not falling now. It’s gonna change. I will get my hits and we’re gonna win games. [But] it doesn’t feel good to not have a win.”
The Mets are 0-3 to start the season and the Brewers are 3-0 to start the season. New York will face the Detroit Tigers (3-0) beginning on Monday for a three-game set. They have to take two-of-three or sweep the series or it is going to be a hot brutal summer in New York.
