The New York Jets and Green Bay Packers will be linked together for at least a few seasons. The franchise-altering Aaron Rodgers trade will have the two franchises comparing their success to each other for as long as Rodgers is in New York. As it turns out, that comparison could be taken to the next level by the start of next season.
The New York Jets Are Set On Pursuing Former Green Bay Packers Star Wide Receiver Davante Adams Going Forward
During the New York Jets’ loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, a report suggested their potential 2024 plans. Davante Adams is expected to be on the Jets’ off-season wish list, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
The New York Jets‘ search for answers on offense will extend into the offseason, when they likely will revisit the opportunity to acquire a player they have had their eyes on since last summer.
The Jets inquired about reuniting Las Vegas Raiders Pro Bowl wide receiver Davante Adams with Aaron Rodgers before last month’s trade deadline, only to be quickly rebuffed.
But the Jets might not be willing to take no for an answer, as sources around the NFL expect that New York will pursue Adams again this offseason.
“That will happen,” one source told ESPN. “I think so.”
Sources said they believe that whether the Raiders consider trading Adams could depend on how their season finishes. Since naming Antonio Pierce as interim head coach, the Raiders (5-5) have won both of their games and garnered recognition and respect from around the league, while Adams has looked and sounded extremely happy.
Would The Los Angeles Raiders Ever Trade Adams?
Adam Schefter previously reported that the Raiders have informed teams they have no interest in trading Davante Adams in 2022. That held true as the trade deadline came and went and Adams stayed put. In spite of Adams’ public frustration over his role in the Las Vegas offense, the Raiders have made it clear they are not planning on trading the six-time Pro Bowler.
Peter King, an NFL insider for NBC Sports, is skeptical the Jets will be able to reunite their former teammates before next season:
“If the value for Adams in the 2022 trade from Green Bay to Vegas was first- and second-round picks, you’d think the value in 2024 would be less, but what exactly? My guess is a first-round pick or two second-round picks,” King explained in his latest “Football Morning in America” column.
“The Jets will argue that Adams’ value shouldn’t be that much because he turns 32 during the season next year and will be playing his 11th year.”
We have seem some rather unexpected massive trades over the last two off-seasons, however, this one continues to seem like one that is far from ever happening.
