NBA rumors: The Dallas Mavericks went all in on Kyrie Irving this summer. They clearly want to see what he can do alongside Luka Doncic this coming season, and they’ve agreed to pay him $126 million for a three-year extension.
Be that as it may, it still feels like the Mavs are one piece away from being a championship contender in the Western Conference. Lee Tran of Fadeaway World may have solved this issue with an eyebrow-raising trade scenaro that will see the Mavs form a new Big 3.
NBA Rumors: Christian Wood Lands With Suns in Wild Trade Scenario
In this deal, former Milwaukee Bucks big man Christian Wood will see himself shipped off to the Phoenix Suns as part of a sign-and-trade agreement. Dallas will also need to send Tim Hardaway Jr. and JaVale McGee to Phoenix as Kevin Durant and Co. look to beef up their rotation behind their own Big 3. In exchange, the Suns send Deandre Ayton to the Mavs.
For his part, Christian Wood remains to be a top free agent target in the market. Teams such as the Los Angeles Lakers and the Miami Heat have already been linked to the 27-year-old, but apparently the Mavs are still looking to do a sign-and-trade deal for the ex-Bucks Center. With this proposed deal with the Suns, the Mavs get their wish — and more.
NBA Rumors: Mavs Form New Big 3
On paper at least, Dallas emerges as a winner in this proposed deal. By giving up Wood (who’s on his way out anyway), Hardaway Jr., and McGee, the Mavs get back a star big man in Deandre Ayton. Dallas needs help in their frontcourt and the arrival of the former first overall pick could be the missing piece to their puzzle. Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving are going to wreak havoc in the NBA this coming season, and with Ayton in the mix, Dallas could be knocking on the door of a championship in 2023-24.
