Tyler Herro has been an integral piece in the Damian Lillard trade talks between the Miami Heat and the Portland Trail Blazers. According to NBA rumors, Herro is the centerpiece of Miami’s trade package for Dame, which at this point, still remains to be under negotiation.
There is now a major development on this front with the Toronto Raptors reportedly looking to join in on the action.
NBA Rumors: Raptors Have Expressed Interest In Tyler Herro
With Herro now seemingly on his way out of South Beach, a couple of teams from around the NBA have reportedly already shown interest in the former Sixth Man of the Year winner. This includes the Brooklyn Nets and the Utah Jazz. The Raptors, however, have now emerged as a third team that is also looking to add the 23-year-old in a potential trade deal. This report comes via NBA insider Michael Scotto of HoopsHype:
“The Toronto Raptors can also be added to the list of teams that have expressed exploratory interest in acquiring Herro as part of multi-team trade talks between the Blazers and Heat involving Lillard, league sources told HoopsHype,” Scotto wrote.
The Blazers don’t seem keen on Tyler Herro, which means that a third team could be involved in order to make the Damian Lillard deal work. The Raptors are hoping that they are that team as they look to add some much-needed firepower ahead of the new season.
NBA Rumors: Will Raptors Pose Serious Threat To Bucks In 2023-24?
The Raptors lost a major piece in Fred VanVleet, who has now decided to take his talents to the Houston Rockets on a max deal worth $130 million. Toronto just couldn’t match that offer and they had no other choice but to let FVV go.
This is perhaps the exact reason why they want Tyler Herro in their lineup. The 6-foot-5 shooting guard averaged 20.1 points last season, and this will go a long way in filling the Van Vleet-sized void Toronto is currently dealing with. This is especially the case if they want to challenge the likes of the Milwaukee Bucks and the Boston Celtics for supremacy in the Eastern Conference.
The last time Toronto battled the Bucks in the playoffs was in 2019 when they ended up defeating Giannis Antetokounmpo and Co. in the Eastern Conference Finals. The Raptors went all that year, marking their first-ever franchise championship. They are obviously a much different team today, but after a disappointing 2022-23 campaign, it looks like Toronto intends to have another run at it this coming season.
