Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo is a generational talent. The last few seasons have seen him accomplishing feats never seen in the NBA since the days of Wilt Chamberlain. As a result, it is not uncommon to see Giannis compared to Wilt the Stilt often on social media.
This past season, the two-time MVP averaged 31.1 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 5.7 assists while shooting 55.3% from the field. He became just the second player in NBA history to average 30+ points, 10+ rebounds, and 5+ assists while shooting at least 50% from the floor in a season. The first, of course, was Wilt Chamberlain.
Milwaukee Bucks Star Giannis Antetokounmpo Wants to Do It Again This Season
The popular sports statistic site StatMuse posted a Tweet stating the above fact. Giannis retweeted the post with the following:
Let’s do it again 🙏🏽🔥 https://t.co/toLOkkcqG6
— Giannis Antetokounmpo (@Giannis_An34) July 12, 2023
Chamberlain accomplished the feat twice:
- 1963-64: 36.9 points, 22.3 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 52.4% shooting
- 1965-66: 33.5 points, 24.6 rebounds, 5.2 assists, 54.0% shooting
Giannis came 0.1 points per game short of achieving the feat in 2021-22 as well. That year, he averaged 29.9 points, 11.6 rebounds, and 5.8 assists while shooting 55.3% from the floor.
If Giannis can do it again, as he supposes in his Tweet, he will be the first player in NBA history to averaged 30+ points, 10+ rebounds, and 5+ assists per game while shooting 50+% from the field in back-to-back seasons.
The key to accomplishing this, of course, will be the performance of his supporting cast. Giannis can score and pass effectively if the Bucks’ outside shooting is electric. Kickout passes to shooters for three’s have been an important part of Milwaukee’s offense for years.
Of course, that offense is going to be a bit different under new head coach Adrian Griffin. However, Griffin will play to Giannis’ strengths. There is a reason that he was so adamant about the Bucks retaining their core players in Brook Lopez and Khris Middleton.
2023-24 should be a fun year. The core that led the NBA in regular season wins last year is back together. With better game management and coaching decisions, Milwaukee is primed for another NBA Finals run with Giannis at the helm.
