NBA news: Jaylen Brown has now become the highest-paid player in the history of the NBA. This is after the Boston Celtics agreed to a massive $304 million supermax extension with the Boston Celtics this summer. Brown new deal doesn’t kick in until the 2024-25 season, but on the fifth and final year of his new deal, the 6-foot-6 guard forward will pocket close to $70 million.
NBA News: Jaylen Brown’s Deal Seen as One of ‘Worst Contracts’ in League

According to Zach Buckey of Bleacher Report, the Celtics could end up regretting their decision to pay Brown that much money. Buckley listed five NBA stars who are set to own the worst contracts in the league, and along with Jerami Grant, Damian Lillard, Bradley Beal, and Karl-Anthony Towns, Jaylen Brown was also part of the dishonorable list:
“His average salary for the final three seasons of his pact sits north of $61 million. That kind of coin should only be attached to a no-brainer superstar. Brown just hasn’t hit that tier.
“So, he probably needs to elevate his game in order to justify his pay rate. Yet, even maintaining his present level could be tricky as he enters his 30s for the final two seasons of his new deal. Boston may not feel buyer’s remorse, but the two-way swingman could still rank among the league’s most overpaid players in three years,” Buckley commented.
As Buckley points out, Brown is going to be 27 this season. In the final year of his deal, the former No. 3 overall pick will be 32. He will still have a lot of gas in his tank at that point, but Buckley argues that Brown could be on the decline by then.
NBA News: Looking at Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Looming Extension

While Jaylen Brown currently reigns supreme as the highest-paid player in the NBA, he won’t hold on to this title for very long. Giannis Antetokounmpo will be in line to sign another supermax extension next summer (assuming he doesn’t renew his deal in September) and he will be surpassing Brown’s $304 million contract.
The Bucks will obviously want to sign Giannis, who will be 29 this season, to another five-year extension, which could stretch out to Antetokounmpo’s mid-30s. Then again, you could argue that Giannis and Brown are not in the same category. It wouldn’t be insane to say that the Bucks are set to get more value for their money as opposed to the Celtics.
