NBA: Damian Lillard has suddenly become the hottest commodity on the trade market as he is still one of the best players in the league. For years he has put on highlight after highlight for the Portland Trailblazers. This past season saw him average a career-best 32.2 points per game. Lillard currently holds franchise records for points, points per game, threes made, and free throws made. The superstar has made it clear he is interested in playing for the Miami Heat. A new team has entered trade conversations that could make that happen.
Toronto Raptors Are Interested In Being Apart Of A Damian Lillard Trade
No, the Toronto Raptors are not interested in trading for Damian Lillard (at least not publicly), but they are interested in acquiring an asset during a Lillard trade. Rather, Toronto is interested in Tyler Herro, and his potential fit alongside its other young stars. Ironically enough, FanSided’s Christopher Kline spoke a Raps three-team trade into existence earlier this week in his mock trade proposal:
Miami Heat Receive:
- Damian Lillard
- Jusuf Nurkic
- Jeenathen Williams
Portland Trailblazers Receive:
- Kyle Lowry
- Caleb Martin
- Gary Trent Jr.
- Nikola Jovic
- Christian Koloko
- 2027 First-Round Pick
- 2029 First-Round Pick
- 2030 First-Round Pick Swap
Toronto Raptors Receive:
- Tyler Herro
Why Would The Toronto Raptors Pursue Tyler Herro? (NBA)
Herro has averaged over 20 points per game in each of the last two seasons while making just under 40% of his 3-point attempts. Few players his age in this league are even close to him when it comes to providing instant offense, and the Raptors have no one close to his skill level in the backcourt right now.
Herro should slot right in as a starting guard, as his 5.2 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game averages in the last two seasons should be taken as further proof that he can contribute to the Raptors in more ways than just chucking up 3-pointers. He’s a difference-maker, and those are few and far between.
Getting in on a Damian Lillard trade to acquire Tyler Herro makes a ton of sense for the organization.
