MLB Trade Rumors: Jon Morosi of MLB Network has been providing great insight and reports as the August 1 trade deadline approaches. His latest report has indicated that an Oakland Athletics left-handed power bat is rumored to be on the block.
Oakland Athletics 1B/OF Seth Brown could be traded at this year’s deadline (MLB Trade Rumors)
Seth Brown, a 31 year old who is in the final season year of his pre-arbitration contract years, could be on the outside looking in of the Oakland Athletics roster due to the arrivals of Tyler Soderstrom and Zack Gelof. He is not a typical trade deadline target for he is under control through the 2026 season, but being on the Athletics, playing multiple positions, and swinging from the left side all makes him an intriguing trade target.
This year Seth Brown has played more corner outfield than first base. At the plate his batting average has dropped down to .200, his strike out rate is slightly elevated at 30%, but he still has the ability to hit a home run as his biggest asset. In each of the past two seasons he has accumulated more than 20 home runs and his nine long balls this year have him on pace to get very close to that marker again.
Aside from the low batting average one other big downfall to Browns game is that he does not get on base at a high clip. He does not excel at drawing free passes and has just a .271 on-base percentage this year. A contending team may be intrigued to add him and utilize him in a pinch hit role for he is not the greatest defender either.
It will be interesting to see if the Oakland Athletics are able to move Seth Brown or not.
