MLB Trade Rumors: The first place Minnesota Twins are considering a major change prior to this year’s August 1 trade deadline. Per a report from Do-Hyoung Park Twins President of Baseball Operations Derek Falvey revealed that the front office is not only receiving calls regarding their surplus of left-handed hitting corner outfielders, but that they are contemplating going through with one of these offers.
The Twins current corner outfield roster construction shows that they have left-handed hitters Joey Gallo, Alex Kirilloff, Max Kepler, Trevor Larnach and Matt Wallner. No particular names have been revealed at this point but both Joey Gallo and Max Kepler are set to be free agents at season end, with the caveat that Kepler has a $10 MM club option for the 204.
A Minnesota Twins left-handed corner outfielder could be dealt at this years trade deadline (MLB Trade Rumors).
Despite shift limitations this year, performance wise Joey Gallo has continued to be the same player that he always has been. In his first year with the Twins he is slashing .175/.292/.467 with 17 home runs and 31 RBI. Max Kepler has been better as of late but still holds a slash line of .234/.298/.440 with 14 home runs and 38 RBI.
Both players currently are big contributors to the Twins offense. Minnesota has struggled offensively this year so if they were going to trade anyone from their corner outfield group they would likely be looking to get MLB help in return.
The quote from Derek Falvey suggests that there is a lot of interest from other teams in acquiring a left-handed bat, so he could use this to his advantage.
“There are other teams that don’t have any of that and they’re dying to get some. It does come up in a lot of conversations. We have a high bar for all of those guys, though.”
It will be interesting to see if the Twins pull the trigger on a deal regarding any of their left-handed corner outfielders or not.
