Milwaukee Brewers: Dynamic Pitcher Logan Henderson Could Emerge as Top 100 Prospect by Season’s End

The Milwaukee Brewers have an underrated pitching prospect in Logan Henderson, who might find his way into Top 100 status by the end of the 2024 MLB season.

Henderson, 22, was drafted by the Brewers with the 15th pick of the 4th round in the 2021 MLB draft. The right-hander from McLennan Community College (TX) currently ranks as Milwaukee’s 14th ranked prospect, per Fangraphs.

With the 116th pick, the @Brewers select McLennan CC (TX) right-hander Logan Henderson, No. 234 on the Top 250 Draft Prospects list.

Upon being drafted, Henderson presented above-average grades on both his fastball and changeup, despite lacking the velocity on the four-seamer most top-end prospects produce these days. In addition to these two pitches, Henderson presents an average-graded slider, and a curveball he hopes to flesh out over the course of this season.

Despite the plus pitches Henderson presents, he has missed a significant amount of playing time due to injury. Most notably, undergoing Tommy John Surgery in March of 2022. The right-hander has just 92.1 innings under his belt as a professional player.

However, while on the field in 2023, Henderson was terrific, posting a 2.75 ERA in 78.2 innings for the Low A Carolina Mudcats, along with 106 strikeouts to just 26 walks. The right-hander simply doesn’t give up a lot of hard contact, and tends to be overlooked as someone who lacks high-end velocity but wins with control and command of his fastball and changeup.

One prospect with a similar profile is right-hander, Drew Thorpe, of the White Sox organization. Thorpe, a second-round selection of the New York Yankees in 2022, dominates with command, while his fastball consistently rings in at just 92-93 mph. Thorpe posted an outstanding 2.52 ERA across 139.1 IP in 2023.

As mentioned above, I believe Henderson has to develop a plus curveball in order to truly take the next step this season into what could be Top 150 prospect status across the league. While this could be a tall task, history shows that not only does Henderson display exceptional command with his primary two pitches, but very few pitching prospect can get by with just two.

    Logan Henderson’s Innings Outlook

All in all, this is not a guy who is on many people’s radar, and I think that changes this season. One can assume Henderson will receive a good mix of innings in both High A and Double A in 2024 and if healthy, can prove a solid return on investment for the Brewers in the coming years.
