MLB News: Shohei Ohtani, star two-way player for the Los Angeles Angels, exited his most recent start against the Cincinnati Reds with arm fatigue.  Leading up to that appearance he had missed his last turn in the starting rotation and had last appeared on the mound on August 9.  Unfortunately an update has been provided and he will not pitch again during the 2023 season.

Los Angeles Angels star two-way player Shohei Ohtani will not pitch again in 2023 (MLB News).

Angels beat reporter Jeff Fletcher shared the news on social media.  He revealed that Shohei Ohtani does have a tear in his ulnar collateral ligament (UCL), but that no decision on surgery or not has been made yet.

Shohei Ohtani has a torn UCL and won’t pitch again this season.

This injury news is awful for both Shohei Ohtani and the Angels.  Shohei is scheduled to be a free agent at seasons end and was looking at receiving the largest contract in MLB history.  While his pitching status for 2023 has been made clear it is currently unknown if he will take the mound next season or not.  Injuries are never a good thing, but the timing of this for Shohei is terrible.
