Milwaukee Brewers Rumors: There is a lot of speculation as to what will happen with David Stearns once the 2023 season ends and his contract with the Brewers expires. Currently he is with the Brew Crew in an advisory role, but up until last fall he had the title of President of Baseball Operations.
One team that he has constantly been linked to is his home town New York Mets. Stearns grew up rooting for the Mets, so it is logical to assume that he has interest in pursuing an opportunity in their front office. Billy Eppler is currently their GM and they have the largest payroll in major league baseball. Adding a great mastermind like David Stearns could be what they need to take the next step.
Recently Mets owner Steve Cohen presented for a mid-season press conference to address the team’s struggles. One interesting topic that he discussed was the fact that they currently do not have a President of Baseball Operations. This undoubtedly was referencing the fact that he will be pursuing David Stearns for this position during the offseason.
Milwaukee Brewers Rumors: Steve Cohen undoubtedly mentions President of Baseball Operations job opening for David Stearns
Steve Cohen’s quote from the press conference was as followed:
I’m still looking for a president of baseball ops… that’s still out there… at some point we’ll hire somebody
Should the Mets hire David Stearns and give him the title of President of Baseball Operations he would rank above Billy Eppler.
