Keston Hiura was the talk of the Milwaukee Brewers farm system earlier this year as the once promising hitting prospect got off to a tremendous start in Triple-A with the Nashville Sounds. Through the first 32 games of the 2023 season he had a .331/.396/.678/1.074 slash line with 12 home runs and 33 runs batted in. During this stretch his strikeout rate was down to 24.6%.
Unfortunately a knee injury sustained on May 12 resulted in a lengthy IL stint. Five weeks after the injury he was added to the Brewers Arizona Complex League roster and he made his first rehab appearance on June 16, 2023.
Milwaukee Brewers Keston Hiura returned from a knee injury and collected two hits in his first game back.
In his first game back Keston Hiura went two for three with a double and two runs batted in. The time he did not get on base he did strike out. It’s likely that he spends a fair amount of time playing in the Arizona League prior to returning to the Nashville Sounds. It would be very surprising to see the Brewers move Keston Hiura straight to the big leagues from the Arizona Complex League.
Should the Brewers desire to return Keston Hiura to the big league team he would have to be re-added to the 40-man roster. He was removed from this prior to the start of spring training, cleared waivers, and was assigned to the minor leagues. If his bat gets going again it’s possible that Milwaukee gives him another opportunity.
