Milwaukee Brewers star Christian Yelich recently appeared on an episode of the Brewers Unfiltered podcast. Throughout the dialogue one thing that he discussed was his admiration for the organization. In particular he talked a lot about how the Brewers have remained competitive each season and have been in the hunt for the playoffs.
Christian Yelich reveals his admiration for the Milwaukee Brewers organization (MLB News).
“I think what this team has done in the last five, six years, it shouldn’t be taken for granted. It should be appreciated. I know everybody wants to win a World Series — us included. This run of competitiveness that this team has been on, it hasn’t really happened here like this before.
It’s just been really fun to be a part of these teams for this organization, because winning in this league is extremely hard. Like, to win one game in the Major Leagues is very, very hard, let alone to be on a team that does it year after year after year. And it’s with a lot of the same guys — but it’s also not with a lot of the same guys. There’s a lot of interchangeable pieces every year and a lot of turnover. To still be competitive, to still be in the division race every year late into the season, there’s something to be said for that.”
This is quite an impactful statement from Christian Yelich. Through his own personal ups and downs Milwaukee has remained competitive in the standings, which is something that all players who commit to an organization long term want.
Going forward the Brewers have Christian Yelich under contract until the conclusion of the 2028 season and then there is a mutual option for the 2029 campaign. They have yet to go ‘all in’ on winning a World Series, but as Yelich points out that is still everyone’s goal.
“There’s been frustrating times, for sure. But for the most part, we’ve been pretty good. A lot of things go into winning the World Series, and hopefully we can do that one year. It’s obviously everybody’s goal. But at the same time, it’s a special era of Brewers baseball, I feel like.”
With 51 games to go in the 2023 regular season Christian Yelich is currently enjoying a resurgent season in which he is slashing .293/.376/.480 with 16 home runs, 62 RBI’s, 22 stolen bases, and a 134 OPS+. Milwaukee is again in the hunt for what could be Yelich’s third NL Central Division championship and another chance in the playoffs.
