The Milwaukee Brewers are 44-39, tied atop the NL Central, and are beginning a four-game series with the hated Chicago Cubs. They will, however, begin the series without third baseman/right fielder Brian Anderson. He was placed on the paternity list today.

As noted in the tweet above, the Brewers signed Jahmai Jones to replace him, and Jones will be active for today’s game.
Who Is Jahmai Jones, and What Can He Provide the Milwaukee Brewers in Brian Anderson’s Absence?
Jahmai Jones was drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the second round of the 2015 amateur draft. He made his Major League debut with the club in 2020, but only played in two games. In 2021, he was traded to the Baltimore Orioles for Alex Cobb.
Jones played in 26 games for the Orioles in 2021, but hit just .149/.208/.194 in that time. He was released by Baltimore in June of 2022. Not long after, the Dodgers signed him again as a free agent.
Two days ago on July 1, Jones opted out of his minor league deal with the Dodgers and was released.
Jones played for triple-A Oklahoma City this year, hitting .293/.428/.543 with nine home runs and 34 RBI. He also hit 20 doubles and three triples.
During his short stints in the Majors, Jones played second base. However, in the minors he has played third base, right field, and left field as well. In essence, he has a very similar positional skillset to Anderson’s.
The details of Jones’ contract with the Brewers are not known at this time.
