MLB News: The Los Angeles Angels have indicated that on Saturday they will reveal why Shohei Ohtani no longer has a locker with the team. Beat reporter Jeff Fletcher first brought this story to the surface when it was realized that after Friday night’s game against the Detroit Tigers that all of his belongings and locker were gone.
Shohei Ohtani was present prior to the game as he did a workout in the cage to determine if he could play. The two-way superstar has been out of hitting since September 4 due to an oblique injury and no longer pitching due to a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow. He is expected to have surgery on his elbow but it is not known when.

According to Jeff Fletcher Angels media relations staffers informed himself, and others, that an update would come on Saturday as to the status of Shohei Ohtani. Angels general manager Perry Minasian was seen present in the clubhouse and it can be assumed that he was a part of this decision making process.
It’s clear that the Angels know why Shohei Ohtani no longer has a locker with the team, but it is strange as to why they are waiting to disclose of this information. The impending free agent could simply be done playing for the season due to his multiple injuries, he could be traveling to undergo surgery, or it could be something completely different.
For now the only thing fans can do is wait until the Angels decide to reveal what happened. An update was promised for sometime on Saturday, September 16.
