NCAA News: The Minnesota Gophers and Wisconsin Badgers have had a long-standing rivalry. In fact, they have been playing against each other since the year 1890, and currently, their rivalry is at a deadlock. The overall record right now between the two programs is 62-62-8. However, the Gophers are currently on a two-game win streak. With the rivalry heating up as of late, so has the recruiting game. Today, it was reported that a Milwaukee area four-star offensive lineman committed to the Golden Gophers.
Four-Star Offensive Lineman Nathan Roy Commits To The Minnesota Gophers
On June 17th Coach P.J. Fleck and his staff made a big splash by landing a top-ranked recruit in Wisconsin. Nathan Roy, a 6-5, 275-pound, four-star offensive tackle from Mukwonago, Wis., announced on Twitter that he has committed to Minnesota to be part of its 2024 recruiting class. Roy committed while making his official visit to the Gophers this weekend.
Roy is rated the number 1 overall player from Wisconsin and the No. 13-rated offensive tackle nationally in the 247Sports composite rankings of major recruiting services. He is the highest-ranked player in the 2024 class to commit to Minnesota.
This Is A Surprising Commitment For Many Reasons
A star high school athlete in the state of Minnesota committing to play college sports for the Wisconsin Badgers is all too common. However, a Wisconsin native going west to play for the Gophers isn’t nearly as common. But the Gophers struck gold with four-star offensive lineman Nathan Roy committing on Saturday.
Roy also received offers from football powers Ohio State, USC, Wisconsin, Tennessee and more.
