Doc Rivers is still in the nascent stage of his tenure as head coach of the Milwaukee Bucks, but since he took over a team with already a bunch of wins and a place near the top of the Eastern Conference standings, it creates a unique situation in where he could be coaching at the 2024 NBA All-Star Game in Indianapolis.
That also means there’s a potential he could coach in that game against Tyronn Lue of the Los Angeles Clippers, who used to be his assistant during their time together with the Boston Celtics and the Clippers.

Lue learned about the possibility of him and Rivers coaching opposite each other in Indianapolis and he reacted to that with a level of disbelief that’s very much understandable given the fact that it was not that long ago when Rivers was doing broadcast gigs instead of making plans against NBA teams as a head coach.

“I didn’t think about that,” Lue said with a laugh and a contemplative headshake Monday, when presented with the possible scenario. “I didn’t think about coaching on the other side of Doc over there.”
For Lue and Rivers to face off at the All-Star Game, though, the Clippers have to be at first place of the West standings before a certain deadline and Milwaukee Bucks have to be at least second in the East so long as the Celtics are first. (Joe Mazzulla can’t coach at the All-Star Game this year because of a rule in place that prevents the same person from calling the shots for an All-Star Game in consecutive years.)
