The Toronto Raptors just had no answer for Milwaukee Bucks superstar Damian Lillard on Wednesday night. Dame had what some would consider his best game as a Buck as the seven-time All-Star posted a 37-point, 13-assist double-double (his first for Milwaukee) in their lopsided 128-112 victory in the Scotia Bank Arena.
Toronto Raptors Coach Comments on Damian Lillard’s Performance for Milwaukee Bucks
Even after the game had ended, Raptors head coach Darkp Rajakovic still couldn’t find the answers to how Lillard pretty much decimated Toronto’s defense on the evening:
“We did not have any pop to start the game,” Rajakovic said, via Abdulhamid Ibrahim of The Globe and Mail. “I don’t know the reasons, but we just didn’t bring it. A lot of times I felt that it was poor communication in execution of the coverage.
“We allowed Damian Lillard to have amazing game, amazing first half. He just picked us apart and we tried multiple coverages. It just did not work tonight for us. And I thought that everything started with energy and force that we did not bring to start the game.”
Well, to be honest, Lillard’s masterful performance also has a lot to do with the fact that he remains to be one of the top point guards in the NBA today. Even the best defenses have trouble dealing with Lillard on a nightly basis, so it’s not a total knock on Toronto.
Then again, the Raptors did let a Lillard-led onslaught take over them as they helplessly watched Milwaukee mount a 33-point lead at one point in the game. To be fair, Toronto were able to claw themselves back to just 13 points down in the fourth quarter, but that was the extent of their botched comeback.
Dame Lillard and Co. made sure that there weren’t going to be any upsets on Wednesday night.
